Latest Scam as reported by one of our Members

The other day I had a phone call from a woman called Carla who said she was from the company Oracle that handled my shares. As I had had them for so long I was now a Premium Shareholder. This would entitle me to certain benefits which she would get a colleague to explain in a follow-up call. All would be explained in the material I would receive through the post. They knew my name, my wife's name and what shares I hold. I had never heard of Oracle and her number was withheld but, just like she said, I had a phone call the next day from a representative called James. In fact I had 2 or 3 phone calls from James, a very chatty fellow with a good line in friendly patter. I was going to benefit from a slight increase in my dividend and I had the opportunity to benefit from one of their upcoming recommendations with a guaranteed 8% return. I could check it out on Bloomberg TV that evening; he was gambling on my not having access to Bloomberg TV, I guess. I explained that I had not yet received the promised documentation and wouldn’t agree to anything until I had had the chance to study it. Unfortunately, if I didn’t take advantage now, I would go to the end of the queue when the next recommendation came round. As I was trying to explain that I wouldn’t have access to any funds until the New Year (why not!!!??) he hung up.

When I rang Equinity, who do handle what shares I’ve got, they said they had had lots of calls like this; it was a widespread scam. Be warned!
