Police warn residents about bogus HMRC callers
Elderly and vulnerable people across Sussex are again being warned to be wary of phone calls from fraudsters pretending to be from HM Customs and Revenue (HMRC).

The bogus callers claim the targeted person is wanted for tax evasion and is arrestable on warrant unless they pay a cash sum - sometimes up to £4,000 - to clear their 'debt'.

Three people plead guilty to assaulting a man in Bexhill
Three people have pleaded guilty to assaulting a man in Bexhill.

The victim was walking along Holliers Hill around 11.30pm on Sunday 31 May when he noticed a yellow Audi drive past him several times before stopping nearby.

Three people - two men and a boy - got out of the vehicle and approached the victim before suddenly attacking him, punching him repeatedly to the face.

The victim managed to break free briefly before falling over, where he was then further attacked while on the ground.

Firearms suspect safely arrested in Hastings
A quick response by police resulted in the safe arrest of a man in possession of a gun in Hastings.

At 10.52am on Monday (6 July) officers responded to a report of a man with handgun in his pocket, walking along the seafront near Hastings Pier.

Following an intensive search of the area officers spotted a man in nearby White Rock Road and he was arrested without incident by 11.25am. A BB-gun was seized together with a gas ammunition canister for the weapon.

Did you see man and woman fighting in Hastings town centre?
Police are appealing for witnesses to an altercation in Hastings town centre.
Officers were called to Robertson Street around 6.50pm on Sunday (July 5) to reports of a fight between a man and a woman. It is thought the incident happened outside Debenhams, near to the junction with Havelock Road.

New police scheme helps support domestic abuse victims in Sussex
A new police scheme in Sussex has given extra support to more than 1400 people reporting domestic abuse.

The 39-strong specialist unit, the Local Resolution Team, introduced in March this year, deals by appointment with any cases that are not immediately urgent, including a new video appointment service when conversations can’t take place face to face.
