News and appeals

Appeal to identify suspects snapped on stolen motorbike

The BMW motorcycle was stolen from Preston Road, Brighton, on Friday 2 February at 11am.

The yellow and black 650cc motorbike was then spotted with three suspects on board on CCTV around the Vogue Gyratory in Lewes Road, Brighton, an hour later.

PC Andy Boucher said: "We are keen to talk to three youths pictured on the bike. This is a powerful motorbike and none of them were wearing helmets. They are not only putting themselves in danger but other road users too. If anyone recognises them or has any information please contact us."

Take a look at the picture here to see if you recognise any of the suspects.

For advice on how to protect your vehicle, read more here.

Anyone with information should contact police online or ring 101 quoting Operation Handlebars.

Sussex Police support Safer Internet Day

Specialist officers in Brighton and Hove’s newly formed Prevention Team are supporting Safer Internet Day 2018, which took place earlier this week. The day brings people together across the UK to unite, inspire positive change and raise awareness of online safety.

As part of a drive to raise awareness of these important issues, Youth Prevention Officer PC Jan Szaranek and Police Community Support Officer Cydnie Noakes gave advice to fans at the Brighton and Hove Amex Community Stadium on Saturday 3 February.

PC Szaranek said: ‘We had some really positive conversations with parents and children about their safety online. Some were more aware than others, but it was great to see that most had a keen interest to learn more and spread the word to their families."

Read more here about this online safety campaign and how you can protect yourself and your family on the internet.

Drug dealers jailed for selling heroin and crack cocaine on Brighton's streets

A group of drug dealers who were bringing large quantities of heroin and crack cocaine to Brighton from Croydon have been jailed for a total of 13 years.

They were among 75 arrests made during a six-month long operation carried out by detectives from Brighton and Hove Police's Community Investigation Team into the supply of drugs into the city between October 2016 and March 2017.

Detective Constable Jon Freeman said: "On December 16 2016 heroin and crack cocaine worth just under £5,000 was recovered. This had been brought down from Croydon by the group on the previous night. This was considered to be a mere snapshot of their regular activities and on other occasions drugs and cash were recovered.

“These sentences are the latest for those arrested as a result of our major drugs operation targeting the supply of heroin and crack cocaine into the city."
