A man arrested in April following a robbery at the Co-Op store in Horsham Road, Cowfold, has been jailed for 11 years and six months at Lewes Crown Court.

Two in court after Christmas Day supermarket burglary in Pulborough

Two men have appeared in court after a Christmas Day shop burglary in Pulborough.

At 7.10pm on Christmas Day, Monday (25 December) police received a report that the Tesco Metro in London Road, Pulborough, had just been broken into and what appeared to be a large quantity of cigarettes had been stolen by thieves who had made off in a white van.

Following enquiries, a van believed to be the one involved was found abandoned a short while later in Fittleworth. A quantity of cigarettes was found in the van.

Further investigation resulted in officers stopping a taxi on the westbound A27 near Emsworth later that evening and arresting two men who were passengers on suspicion of the burglary. A large quantity of cigarettes was found in a duvet cover in the taxi.

Mark Yeganeh, 50, unemployed, of Wingfield St, Portsmouth, and Ronald Wall, 37, a groundsman, of Sedgley Close, Southsea, have been charged with burglary and appeared in custody at Brighton Magistrates Court on Wednesday (27 December). They were remanded in custody to appear at Guildford Crown Court on 18 January
