West Downs Neighbourhood Watch Task Force

A self contained team comprising over 50 members throughout the West Downs area.
We have our own Control Vehicle, Radio Communications and are equipped with Hi-Viz Jackets and I.D. Cards. As a Neighbourhood Watch organisation we are covered by NHW Public Liability Insurance.
Our experience and carefully structured organisation of Incident Controllers, Team leaders and Members, some of whom are First-Aid trained, lends itself to a wide range of operations.
We can assist in any operations where tasks can be delegated to free up trained professionals for more important work. Our well established “Call Out” procedure ensures an early response to local incidents and disasters, such as manning cordons, knocking on doors if an evacuation is needed, etc.

The WDNHWV evolved from the award-winning West Downs NHW Search Team - the longest serving Police-accredited civilian search team in the UK - which was established following the disappearance of Sarah Payne in 2000.
Fortunately, changes in techniques and new technology have reduced the requirement for physical searches and we have therefore been able to turn our knowledge and resources to wider community issues - from marshalling and leaflet drops to coping with local emergencies.

The Team has over 15 years' experience, working in all weathers and terrains, from urban streets to fields, from beaches to forests and assisting in flood situations, having been used during flooding at Felpham.
We were deployed in areas that had been cut off, but not in immediate danger, to check on households, leave leaflets with emergency contact details, identify anyone at risk and ascertain which properties were unoccupied. Because of this, we are being written into the Littlehampton Flood Watch Plan by the National Flood Forum.

Our services have been used for marshalling various events from Firework Displays to Carnivals, and we also supplied personnel for part of the Olympic Torch route.
During these activities we often have to man road closures.
