Update on last weekend's Operation Blitz activity

Last weekend the prevention teams ran an extra day of Operation Blitz to cover Halloween night.

This saw an increase in officers, along with our usual officers, covering the district to deal with anti-social behaviour. Due to anticipated issues, as a result of it being Halloween a pre-emptive dispersal order was granted under Section 34 of the anti-social behaviour crime and police act 2014. This gave our officers greater powers to exclude people or groups from a designated area should they be causing issues related to anti – social behaviour.

In total we received 16 Blitz related calls which were attended by the team. These calls varied but ranged from youths throwing eggs and fireworks to youths fighting with each other.

These calls resulted in one person being arrested for various offences, and an investigation into an alleged assault and an investigation into a shoplifting. Despite how busy the night was, our officers still found time to engage with those enjoying the night and seize a car for being on the road with no valid insurance.

Although not as busy, we had additional officers in over the weekend as people continued their Halloween celebrations. Our officers dealt with a few groups of rowdy youths, patrolled the local hotspots and assisted in the search and return of a high risk missing person.

Following information being received that a house party was taking place in Crowborough, another dispersal order was issued. Using this officers were able to disperse four youths from the area, this meant contacting their parents to ensuring that they returned safely.

Later in the evening we received four calls on the blitz phone in relation to the house party. Officers attended and this resulted in four persons being arrested for a variety of offences.
