Your Crawley Police Update 21 August 2019

We are trying to trace any women who were sexually assaulted by a drunk man in Tesco, Hazelwick, Crawley around 5.30pm on Thursday 8 August.  A 35 yr old male was arrested, for more click here.


We are looking for witnesses after a man was robbed in Crawley Memorial Gardens about 1pm on Sunday 21 July.  The 26 year old victim was walking through the Memorial Gardens when he was hit from behind to the side of his head with a solid object causing him to fall to the ground losing consciousness. 

The victims mobile phone and wallet were subsequently stolen by the attacker.

Rogue Traders in Sussex

This type of crime across Sussex, together with other cold callers saying they are variously from the water companies or drain clearance companies gaining access and gaining cash, has increased.

There were 67 similar reports in July, compared with 31 reports in June, 32 in May and 29 in April.

38 of the July reports were in West Sussex, 12 in East Sussex and 17 in Brighton and Hove.

So far in 2019 there have been 261 such reports altogether and in 153 of the cases residents lost money, totalling £600,629.

154 of the 2019 reports were in West Sussex, 58 in East Sussex and 49 in Brighton and Hove.

The average age of victims was 80 years, with the oldest being 97.

There was a shed break in Hollingbourne Cresent, Tollgate Hill, Crawley between 4 August to 5 August, 11:55pm – 7am.  The suspect/s are believed to have entered via the back gate and broke the lock on the shed before taking a grey & yellow Rockrider 520 mountain bike, and a brand new white and pink mountain bike.

There was an attempt break in Banks Road, Poundhill, Crawley between 17 August to 18 August, 7pm – 11pm.  The victim returned home to find the exterior soffit had been ripped off and parts of the lock had been damaged, fortunately entry was not gained.
