New police officer recruits quickly arrest Worthing burglary suspect
Two new police officer recruits who were called to a report of a burglary in progress managed to arrest a suspect just five minutes later.

The PCs who have been out on patrol on division for a just a few weeks responded to a report of an attempted break-in at house in Windsor Road on Monday (5 August).

The victim was at home when she heard noises at her front door and when she looked out of her window she saw a man standing in front of the door. She then saw an attempt was being made to open the lock and the door from the outside. She managed to put the security latch on, activate her burglar alarm and dial 999.

When officers arrived she described the suspect to them and they found a man nearby matching the description.

A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and later released under investigation for further enquiries.

PC Steve Edwards who has been tutoring the new recruits said: "This was great work by the two recruit officers who were able to locate a suspect quickly and make an arrest."

Anyone who witnessed the attempted burglary or has any information about the incident should report online or ring 101 quoting serial 590 of 05/08.
