Farm Watch Coordinator's Update

Reported cases of loose animals on the public highways this week has risen from 16 to over 227. This is made up by in excess of 221 sheep, and six cows. Please, livestock owners, ensure that your field boundaries are animal proof.

Please ensure that you check your road, motorway and railway sided fields at least once a day.

There have been several thefts this week across both East and West Sussex, items stolen include   two batteries, a strimmer, a bicycle, a Polaris buggy, a sit on tractor-mower and a large box trailer. For detail see reports below.

A property in Banks Road, North Chailey was entered and an attempt was made to break into an outbuilding. An adjoining shed was entered but nothing seems to be missing.

A barn in Old Hollow Worth, Crawley was entered and a quadbike and bicycle were removed by two intruders who were disturbed in the act. They made off across fields but dumped the quad whist taking the cycle with them.

A man was spotted on CCTV breaking into a barn in Old Hollow on Monday, 10 September. He was wearing a baseball cap. Fortunately nothing was stolen.

Intruders entered a property in Penhurst, Battle and stole a grey and green Polaris 400 Ranger that was parked on the drive, chassis number 4XARH45A9AD084409, engine number D000361004374. It has a bench front seat and is fitted with a winch to the front.

An outbuilding in Wall Hill, Forest Row was entered and a £3,000 sit on tractor mower was stolen.

A premises in Possingworth Lane, Blackboys was broken into and a white Kawasaki 900 jet ski with green trim was stolen. CCTV shows three young people wheeling it across the yard and connecting it to an old, white Transit van.

GOOD NEWS. Further to my report last week concerning a stolen tortoise. The good news is that it has been returned to its owners.

A farm in Cuckmere Road, Alfriston, Polegate, was entered and a white Ifor Williams double axled box van trailer was stolen. The serial number is SCK60000060474373. It has several red stickers around the trailer saying “Trident” in black letters. This trailer is unusual and should easily be identified.

GOOD NEWS. A Daihatsu Fourtrak that was stolen from a farm in Boreham Street was found.

A land owner in the Hailsham area found that locks to their field had been cut and there were tyre marks across the field. It is believed that the intruders were trying to get into a scrap metal yard.
