Flood Warning - Aldingbourne Rife at Bersted

West Sussex Emergency Management has advised that the Aldingbourne Rife is high and rising.

At Westergate, 20mm of rain has been recorded. Twice the monthly average rain has already fallen in February. From 08:00 26/02/2024 flood water will affect properties on Durban Road, in Bersted. Flooding will also affect fields near Shripney Lane and the A259. Flood water will also affect the car park at Tesco on Shripney Road and land and caravans at Riverside Caravan Centre. Rain is forecast to clear early Monday morning.

Only scattered showers are forecast Monday afternoon, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Aldingbourne Rife should begin to fall by 20:00 26/02/2024 in Bersted. However, flood impacts could remain in Bersted for at least a week, and the river might not return nearer to normal until April.

River levels should remain lower than they were in January 2024.

Some roads will be affected by flood water. Please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding, including Shripney Lane.
